about me

I am lecturer of Russian at the University of Oklahoma in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics. I am interested in Slavic linguistics, dialectology, phonetics, and phonology. I am particularly interested in the relationship between 'Standard Language' and dialects as well as the effect of standardization and language ideologies on attitudes toward dialects and on the perception of those, who speak different dialects. I am also interested in current developments in Slavic languages, including Russian, Polish, Ukranian, and BCMS (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, Montenegrin). I have a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literature from University of Washington. I have had the opurtunity to teach at Studium Carpatho-Ruthenorium at Prešov University in Prešov, Slovakia since 2024. There I teach Rusyn (level A1-A2).

research and fieldwork

My research brings together phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, and dialectology rooted in a strong commitment to fieldwork. I frequently use PRAAT and GIS software to analyze and agrigate linguistic data. My long-term goal is to add to what I see as a paucity of scholarly works in the areas of perceptual dialectology, languages attitudes, acoustic phonetics, and experimental phonology within Slavic languages.
